Chez Chiara is 1-year-old!

Today is the blog's, Chez Chiara's, 1 year birthday!

For me, it is a time to celebrate and thank Chez Chiara readers, followers, commentators, and contributors.

I would particularly like to thank all those who encouraged me to create my own blog, and who helped me to do so--with their support, advice, and enthusiasm.

I would also like to thank specially all who communicated their condolences and support through my father's death and funeral. At such times one realizes one has a valued community of compassionate and sensitive friends one meets with regularly, though computer to computer.

Over the course of the first year of Chez Chiara's existence there have been some bloggus interruptus issues.

Most obvious was the email hacking, which involved a lot of time and energy, and disruption of certain projects and posts that were there in draft form, though fortunately the blog itself wasn't directly affected. The offers, advice, support, and humorous interludes from those unfortunately contacted to rescue me from London, or who read about it here, were most appreciated.

I am happy to report that I have now recovered the 2 affected accounts from Yahoo--after ~6 months of diligently emailing them. I will be doing a post on that topic, since I would like to include some advice and encouragement to others similarly affected.

Other bloggus interruptus issues have included 2 longer term projects still in progress. One comprises the personal stories that were in progress before we were so rudely interrupted by life events and hackings; the other is the compilation and translation of the Saudi marriage permission procedure. Both are priorities for the coming year. My sincere thanks to those who have contributed so far in published or draft form, and to all for their patience.

A final thanks to all those who are following Chez Chiara as part of Google Followers, via a Reader, their own Blog Roll, or by email; and to all who have linked, tweeted, or emailed posts, or made them "Good Reads". It is very encouraging that you find the blog worth following, and the posts worth sharing. And, to all who have commented, your contributions are a very valuable part of the blog, thank you!

Oh, and to the thousands--you know who you are--who have viewed a specific post--you know which one--looking for a specific picture--you know THE ONE--set a spell, read a bit, leave a comment! :D

*This post was timed to appear exactly one year after the first comment on December 12, 2009 at 8:20:00 AM by Susanne--which "birthed" Chez Chiara as being active online. I thought Chez Chiara was hidden, and I was still dithering about when to "deliver" this new baby blog. It helps to have a caring and attentive midwife! :D

Congrats, Chiara! I also thought your blog was older.
I didn't know your father passed. Please accept my belated condolences. It is never easy to lose a parent even though we know it is inevitable.

I hope you have many more years of blogging. I have not been reading your blog long but I find it very interesting. I am very interested in history and thanks to the American wars, I have become interested in Islam and the history of the middle east and central asia. (Our school history was so Eurocentric that we missed out on the history of the rest of the world.

Just in case you have not heard Lesley Hazleton's TED address on Islam, you could find it here

I enjoyed it and thought you might also. I look forward to reading her book on Islam.

my only comment would be if the posts become more concise and shorter than how they are now ( i read blogs on the run most of the time)

Congratulations dear Chiara!

Although it has only been one year, but I believe your influence as a blogger surpasses that of many bloggers who have been in the blogging filed for a longer time.

In one year, you were able to set very high standards for all of us to try to rise up to!

I am proud to have known you.

Thank you

Maha Noor Elahi
